Sara Fariss Krivanec is mother to three children who serve as her inspiration for her childbirth policy work. Her birth experiences are varied including a cesarean, a VBAC and a homebirth. She has worked with physicians, CPMs and a homebirth CNM for the births of her children. Sara is a trained labor and postpartum doula and enjoys educating others about the benefits of midwifery care. Sara co-leads ICAN of Richmond, the local chapter of the International Cesarean Awareness Network, whose mission is to educate women on the risks of cesareans and the safety of Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC). She earned her B.A. in Women Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. Sara is past-president of Virginia Friends of Midwives and lobbied for the licensing of Certified Professional Midwives, which went into law in 2005.
